Man United have had a terrible start to the Premier League, winning only 7 points after their opening 6 matches.
The Red Devils' most recent defeat to Tottenham has seen them receive plenty of criticism. Manager Erik Ten Hag has now lost 10 games by at least three goals as manager. Over £600m has been spent on new signings over the years, but they have yet to see results.
It is understood that Man United's board have no plans to sack the coach, but if performances do not improve quickly, the Dutchman's future could be in danger.
Before the defeat to Spurs, United struggled to a 1-1 draw at home to FC Twente in their Europa League opener, but they can travel to Porto with confidence, having gone 12 games unbeaten against Portuguese clubs.
In contrast to Man United, Porto have had a good start to their domestic campaign, winning six of their opening seven Primeira Liga games by an aggregate score of 16-1. Their only defeat came against leaders Sporting Lisbon (0-2) at the end of August.
However, their form on the continent has been inconsistent. Vitor Bruno's side suffered a shock 3-2 defeat away to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in their Europa League opener last week, despite having an extra man in the second half. They have also won just one of their last seven Europa League games.
Although Man United are rated higher, this visit to Portugal will be very challenging, when Porto has only lost 1 of the last 22 home matches (won 18, drawn 3) in all competitions.
