Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has just suffered another shock in his journey back to the pitch. The French star was removed from Monaco's list for the Champions League play-offs.
Pogba reappeared in November last year, more than 2 years after his last appearance. The 32-year-old midfielder joined Monaco on a free transfer in June, after serving a reduced penalty for testing positive for banned substances.
After a long period of not playing, Pogba needs more time to regain his fitness. His debut in Monaco was in the last few minutes when he came on as a substitute in the Ligue 1 match against Rennes in November. He then was brought on twice, before having to rest for the last 9 matches in all competitions due to a calf injury.
Speaking at a press conference, Monaco Director Thiago Scuro said that the medical team is still focusing on finding solutions to Pogba's condition.
The entire medical department is focusing on finding solutions. There is no clear answer to that question.
We still need to complete the process to clarify the situation. For any injury, the first step is to return to the field, then continue training to regain the necessary fitness for competition" - Scuro said.
Not only Pogba, Monaco also does not have the services of defender Mohammed Salisu and midfielder Takumi Minamino due to injury. Two new players Wout Faes and Simon Adingra are called up in addition, along with the presence of Krepin Diatta.
Monaco will be guests at Strasbourg in the round of 16 of the French National Cup. In the Champions League, they will face PSG in the play-off round. The first leg takes place at home, and the second leg is held at Parc des Princes.
The team that qualifies will face one of the two opponents Barcelona or Chelsea in the round of 16.
