Inter Miami and Al Ahly (Group A) will play the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Sharing before the tournament started, Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez commented that the tournament is an opportunity for the underrated teams to create a shock, including Inter Miami.
"European teams are certainly deep and well-organized, but remember they have to go through a tight schedule before this tournament. It is not easy to stay in the best physical condition after a long season.
PSG, Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich... are very strong teams. However, I believe there will be a surprise, who knows, from us or another MLS representative, even though I know facing big teams is not easy," Suarez frankly said.
Along with Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Suarez is one of Inter Miami's pillars of experience. They are the ones who have fought many times in this playground in Barcelona's jersey. However, the American team itself is still not really stable.
In the 2024 MLS season, they won Supporter' Shield with a record number of points but soon stopped at the first round of the MLS Cup play-off stage. Inter Miami's form in April and May also saw a series of ups and downs when they only won 1 out of 8 matches.
Despite internal doubts, Suarez insists fighting spirit is a must for Inter Miami. The striker said: "We understand that we cannot win every match, but we will take the field with the highest determination to compete and get the best results.
I, Messi, Alba and Busquets have a close relationship, as well as know each other very well on the pitch. We will try to promote this strength. Some of us have experience in this tournament, but for the young players, this is the first time. They should make the most of their opportunities."
The match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly will take place at 07:00 on June 15 (Vietnam time).
