Argentine football has just received sad news when Camilo Nuin - one of the brightest young faces - suddenly passed away after a seemingly simple surgery. This information was confirmed by the home club San Telmo on June 23.
Camilo suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and knee cartilage, and was required to undergo surgery for reconstruction. This is a popular form of surgery in professional sports, which is considered relatively safe. Before getting to the operating table, he still chatted and laughed with his family.
However, less than 1 hour after the surgery began, the doctors reported a serious change. A few minutes later, Camilo was confirmed not to have survived.
The official cause has not yet been announced, but the Argentine media suspect it may be related to complications from anesthesia or transplantation. The victim's family said that there were signs of medical errors and requested the authorities to conduct an autopsy. The Lomas de Zamora prosecutor's office is investigating the entire surgical process.
Camilo Nuin grew up in the youth unions of Boca Juniors and independiente before joining San Telmo in 2022. At the age of 18, he has played more than 80 matches for youth teams and reserve teams, and is considered one of the potential faces of Argentine football.
Immediately after the incident, the San Telmo club closed the day to commemorate Camilo. The Argentine Football Federation and many large and small teams across the country have sent their condolences to the family and team.
The incident is raising concerns about health safety in sports, especially in surgeries that are not considered too complicated.
