Paris St Germain fans are extremely excited about the appearance of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. They are used to superstars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in recent times.
The Georgian was signed by PSG for €65 million on a 4.5-year contract to follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned superstars. Of course, Kvaratskhelia is not at the same level (both in terms of talent and image) as the "MNM" trio of the past, but then again, there aren't many players who can achieve that.
Kvaratskhelia, who turns 24 next month, is coming to Paris to write her own destiny, create a legacy and reach new heights.
Kvaratskhelia is arguably one of the greatest players to grace the Diego Maradona Stadium. The 23-year-old winger has been a sensation in Serie A alongside Victor Osimhen for Napoli in the last two seasons.
Kvaratskhelia arrived in Italy as a complete unknown but quickly showed his talent. He emerged with strengths such as speed, dribbling, goalscoring and courage both with and without the ball.
The former Dinamo Batumi player was instrumental in Napoli's first Serie A title in 33 years. He was also named Serie A Player of the Year and Champions League Young Player of the Year in the 2022-23 season.
Although the 18 months since that success have seen Kvaratskhelia falter, he still leaves Napoli with incredible numbers, with the 23-year-old having scored 46 goals and provided 48 assists in 191 appearances in all competitions over just over two seasons.
For PSG, Kvaratskhelia is the only option, especially since they tried to sign him last summer. When Marcus Rashford was offered to Paris a few weeks ago, they turned him down.
When Karim Adeyemi became another option, PSG also turned their heads. Last August, they also did not pursue Jadon Sancho and even AC Milan's Rafael Leao. Coach Luis Enrique only wanted Kvaratskhelia in his squad.
In his flexible 4-3-3, Enrique believes the Georgian can make a difference and ticks all the boxes: young, versatile, technical and hard-working. However, Kvaratskhelia still needs work, a challenge Enrique relishes tackling.
PSG had a number of wingers in their squad before signing Kvaratskhelia, including Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Lee Kang-in, but none of them could satisfy the Spaniard.
Kvaratskhelia's arrival would change the dynamic at the Parc des Princes. Regardless of where he plays, he would bring balance to a PSG attack that has been overly reliant on the Achraf Hakimi-Dembele pairing on the right flank.
For Enrique and PSG sporting director Luis Campos, the Georgian winger is the perfect replacement for Mbappe. Of course, Kvaratskhelia is unlikely to score 40 goals a season like Mbappe did, but he will bring balance and provide a consistent threat from both flanks.
Kvaratskhelia fits Enrique's vision so well that the tactician is excited, a rare thing for the Spanish "captain".
The bustling Parc des Princes will be ready to give Kvaratskhelia all the love that the team's new symbol deserves.
