After the last World Cup in his career, Guillermo Ochoa made the decision to hang up his gloves at the age of 41.

Guillermo Ochoa, one of the greatest goalkeepers in Mexican football history, officially announced his retirement at the age of 41, ending his 22-year professional career.

Before the 2026 World Cup, Ochoa confirmed that the home tournament would be the last World Cup in his career. Despite many rumors about his ability to continue playing with a new contract, this veteran goalkeeper has officially denied all speculation.

I have dedicated everything I have to clubs and the national team. Today, I officially retire. As a goalkeeper, sometimes you have to wait for 90 minutes just to face a decisive moment, and when that moment comes, you are not allowed to hesitate" - Ochoa shared on social media.

Ochoa was called up to participate in six World Cups, a achievement only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have achieved. He is the number one goalkeeper of Mexico at three consecutive World Cups including Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

The goalkeeper born in 1985 debuted for Club America's first team in February 2004 before becoming the first Mexican goalkeeper to play in Europe when joining Ajaccio (France) in 2011.

During more than a decade of playing football on the old continent, Ochoa also played for Malaga, Granada, Standard Liege, Salernitana, AVS Futebol and AEL Limassol. In between that time, he returned to Club America from 2019 to 2022.

I never thought a dream could take me so far. Today, I just want to say thank you. I bring the feelings of millions of fans and relief because I know I have dedicated everything to Mexico" - Ochoa expressed.
