Goalkeeper Edson (34 years old) is often affectionately called Pixe by his friends, who just rushed to celebrate with his teammates after a save and suddenly collapsed.
Although the players and referee immediately called medical staff to the stadium and he was quickly taken to the hospital, all resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
This tragedy happened in a 5-a-side futsal match at a gymnasium in Augusto Correa, para (northern Brazil). This is an amateur tournament. Pixe plays for the Sind Motos.
The local government has canceled all matches taking place the next day. A video on social media recorded Pixe turning to the right to block the shot, the ball hit hard at the chest.
At first, this goalkeeper still seemed normal, even raising his hand to celebrate. But as soon as he ran to celebrate with his teammates, he swung and fell onto the field. It is not yet clear whether the collision with the ball was directly related to Pixe's departure.
Just a few months ago, in June, Brazilian futsal also witnessed a similar tragedy. Roberto Peterson (33) died in a match in Santa Catarina after being hit in the stomach by the ball and suffering a heart attack. He left behind his wife and three young children.
