The Swedish striker ended a seven-match streak without a goal with a double against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Gyokeres' two goals helped Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 4-0, thereby consolidating their top position in the group.
After relieving the pressure of scoring, Gyokeres believes he will have more motivation to move forward in the match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. He said: "Scoring is always great, and doing it in the UEFA Champions League is very memorable. I always want to contribute to the team with my work performance and other things, but scoring always brings a special feeling. That is also what I have always wanted to do.
The support from my Arsenal teammates is very meaningful to me, they are great.
Arsenal had an explosive performance in the second half, scoring 4 goals in just 13 minutes. According to Gyokeres, coach Arteta urged the players to calm down and continue playing offensively in the second half to make a difference, after a stalemate in the first half.
He said: At half-time, the message from the coach is to continue playing and of course there must be certain adjustments. But I think we played well in the first half, continued to do the right thing and of course took advantage of the opportunities when they came.
When you win and show such performances, it will build trust for the whole team. We want to continue to have victories like this."
Gyokeres moved to Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon for €73 million at the start of this season. He wore the number 14 shirt of Thierry Henry, the club's all-time top scorer.
To be honest, there were not many shirts available when I arrived at Arsenal, but wearing the number 14 shirt was a great honor for me. Arsenal want to win trophies, that is our wish and that is the most important thing and of course I want to contribute and score, Gyokores added.
Coach Mikel Arteta also praised Gyokeres. Hes very strong, open, his face is on everyone, he said. The way he presses the ball, holds the ball, it's extraordinary. Today he scored two very different goals, and hopefully he will start to get the momentum and open a scoring streak for himself.
