Coach Liam Rosenior confirmed the information at a press conference held on the morning of January 6 in France, thereby closing all speculation about his future. Rosenior is currently the captain of Strasbourg and just a few days ago still avoided the possibility of leaving the Ligue 1 representative.
According to the 41-year-old coach, he flew to London on January 3rd to talk directly with Chelsea's board of directors, before entering the extended negotiation round on January 5th. The Blues are urgently looking for a new captain after breaking up with Enzo Maresca, and Rosenior is the chosen name.
Speaking to French media, Rosenior said: "Last weekend, I still didn't know what would happen. But then, I was allowed to talk to one of the biggest clubs in the world. As of today, everything shows that I will become the next coach of that team.
The English strategist emphasized that this is an unmissable opportunity at the moment. He praised Chelsea, especially the quality of the squad, fans and the team's position on the world football map.
Rosenior also confirmed that the two sides have only reached an oral agreement, and have not signed an official contract. However, important terms have been agreed upon and the deal may be completed in the next few hours.
I am here today because I am really interested in Strasbourg. I think answering your questions before entering the next stage of your career is necessary" - Rosenior added.
According to the plan, Rosenior's first match as Chelsea coach is likely to be a visit to Charlton Stadium in the FA Cup on January 11. Previously, interim coach Calum MacFarlane will lead Chelsea in the West London derby against Fulham in the middle of the week.
