On October 2, a press conference was held in Hanoi for the Hanoi International Women's Football Tournament - T&T Group Cup 2024. This is also the first international club-level women's football tournament held in Vietnam.
The tournament was organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Hanoi Football Federation and other units, as part of a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
According to the schedule, the tournament will take place from October 3 to October 7 at Hang Day Stadium, with 4 participating teams: Thai Nguyen T&T, Hanoi, Beijing (China) and Manila Digger (Philippines).
Regarding international teams, Beijing club is ranked 6th in the Chinese national championship. Participating in the Hanoi international friendly tournament, they brought their strongest squad with pillars such as Yao Mengjia, Madinal Shadike, Lyu Yuting.
The most notable name of the Beijing team is 19-year-old goalkeeper - Pan Hongyan, a Chinese national and U20 player.
Meanwhile, the Manila Digger club includes new recruits Connie Caliz, Erika Olivera, Maggie Lena, Nia Fountain, Quinley Quezada, alongside national players such as Rhea Chan, Lustan Hazel, and goalkeeper Fontanilla Kiara.
Last season 2023, Manila Digger reached the final of the Philippine national championship.
Speaking at the press conference, head coach Van Thi Thanh of Thai Nguyen T&T club said: "This tournament helps teams learn, accumulate experience, and exchange knowledge. The Philippines team has players from the US and Canada, which helps improve the quality of the tournament. Hopefully, the Thai Nguyen T&T team will learn a lot."
On the side of Hanoi FC, coach Dao Thuy Mien shared: "We will try to exchange, learn and accumulate experience from our opponents. The tournament creates conditions for young players to try their best, aiming for the next tournament. My team has many young players and will try and make efforts to improve their skills."
