On August 8, a technical meeting for the soccer Cúp Standard Chartered 2024 (SC Cup 2024) took place in Hanoi. The tournament, which has a scale of up to 53 participating teams in the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City qualifying rounds.
Notably, this year, the SC Cup 2024 features the debut of women's teams, bringing a variety of colors.
Ms. Trịnh Như Quỳnh, Director of External Affairs at Standard Chartered Bank, and Tournament Director, shared: "For the first time, SC Cup 2024 will organize an additional group for women's teams. We hope that this will not only happen in 2024 but also mark a new beginning to continue organizing for future seasons.
Through this tournament, we hope to spread the spirit of health protection. This is an opportunity for each member of the team to bond more closely, play with all their might for the colors and uniforms. In addition, the SC Cup 2024 will also be an opportunity for teams to interact and expand their friendships with many other friends."
According to the qualifying round format, in the Hanoi area, 24 men's teams were drawn into 8 groups (3 teams/group) to compete in a single round-robin format, ranking and selecting the top 8 teams from each group to advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
In contrast, 7 women's teams were drawn into 2 groups (1 group of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams) to compete in a single round-robin format, ranking and selecting the top 2 teams from each group to advance to the semifinals and finals.
In the Ho Chi Minh City area, 19 men's teams were drawn into 6 groups (5 groups of 3 teams and 1 group of 4 teams) to compete in a single round-robin format, ranking and selecting the top 5 teams from each group and the second-placed team with the best performance to advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
In addition, 3 women's teams in Ho Chi Minh City will compete in a single round-robin format.
At the finals, the men's champion from the Hanoi area and the men's champion from the Ho Chi Minh City area will compete in a knockout format; the women's champion from the Hanoi area and the women's champion from the Ho Chi Minh City area will compete in a knockout format.
The SC Cup 2024 will take place from August 17 to 24.
