On the evening of December 21, the Vietnamese team won 5-0 against the Myanmar team at Viet Tri Stadium. The three points earned helped coach Kim Sang-sik's team close the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup as the top team in Group B, with 10 points after 3 wins and 1 draw.
Notably, in the match against Myanmar, striker Nguyen Xuan Son was on the field and contributed 2 goals. Xuan Son's performance received praise from coach Kim Sang-sik.
"Thank you to the fans who came to the stadium today to cheer on the team. The players gave their all until the last minute. The players gave 100%.
Xuan Son had his first match for the national team but performed very impressively. Son showed that he deserves to be on the national team. The Vietnamese team has returned, with more vitality than before. We will focus on preparing for the match against Singapore in the semi-finals," coach Kim Sang-sik shared.
"Since the second goal, the team has been more confident. I didn't change the players on the field because I wanted to see how they coordinated. After that, I gave a chance to some players who rarely had the chance to play in this tournament, like Thanh Long.
The players did their best. During halftime, I talked to Xuan Son, he said he wanted to finish this match and enjoy his debut for the Vietnam team. We would like to thank everyone for their support tonight," coach Kim Sang-sik added.
Vietnam's opponent in the semi-finals is Singapore. Coach Kim Sang-sik's students will play the first leg on the opponent's field on December 26.
