On the afternoon of March 18, coach Koji Gyotoku of the Cambodian team attended a press conference before the international friendly match with the Vietnam team in Binh Duong tomorrow (March 19).
At the beginning of the press conference, coach Koji Gyotoku said that the goal of the Cambodian team is to win against the Vietnamese team.
He said: "Our goal in tomorrow's match is to win, but this is difficult, tomorrow's match will also be very difficult.
Vietnam is the top team in Southeast Asia and is the champion. We are not fully prepared. We want to show the Cambodian fans the strength of the team.
I watched videos of the match of the Vietnam team, the match they defeated Thailand. Through that match, I saw their strength, organized the match well and they got a worthy result.
We played well in the 2024 ASEAN Cup even though we did not have good results against Thailand, Malaysia... But the team also showed its strength. I look forward to tomorrow's match with the Vietnam team".
The Japanese coach also expressed regret that the players of the Cambodian team did not have the opportunity to face striker Nguyen Xuan Son on the Vietnamese team.
He said: "In response to the news of Xuan Son's injury, I want the team to have the opportunity to compete with this player so that the athletes can compete and compete with Xuan Son, but unfortunately he did not compete. Vietnam has other players who play well, such as Hoang Duc.
Coach Kim Sang-sik is Korean, he organized the Vietnam team well, especially in the victory match with a Japanese coach, Thailand. This victory affirms the number one position in Southeast Asia of the Vietnam team".
Before concluding the press conference, coach Koji Gyotoku affirmed that the goal of winning is not the most important thing.
"I think it's not easy to win. The goal is to win, but besides that, I want the team to accumulate experience when playing with the champion. To see what we can do and what we can't do is the important thing. Now I don't think about the result," Mr. Koji concluded.
The international friendly match between the Vietnamese team and the Cambodian team will take place at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (March 19) at Binh Duong Stadium.
