The 1-1 draw against the Philippines caused the Vietnamese team to miss the opportunity to win an early ticket to the semi-finals of the ASEAN Cup 2024. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will return to host Myanmar in the final match of Group B.
Currently, the Vietnamese team has 7 points, 3 points more than the two teams behind, Indonesia and Myanmar. In theory, Quang Hai and his teammates have many opportunities to continue with the top position in the group if they draw or win against Myanmar in the last round; or are only allowed to lose by 1 goal and must score against Myanmar (lose 1-2, 2-3, 3-4...).
In case Vietnam loses 0-1 to Myanmar, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team need to wait for Indonesia to beat the Philippines with a difference of no more than 2 goals (2-1, 2-0, 3-1...).
In addition, the Vietnamese team will enter the semi-finals as second place in the group after losing 0-1 to Myanmar in the final round and Indonesia beating the Philippines with a difference of 3 goals or more (3-0, 4-1, 4-0...).
Notably, if they lose to Myanmar by 2 goals or more (0-2, 1-3...) and Indonesia wins against the Philippines, the Vietnamese team will stop at the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
The match between Vietnam and Myanmar will take place at 8:00 p.m. on December 21 at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho.
