The storm challenges newcomers
In December 2024, SHB Da Nang club witnessed a big change in the upper level. Businessman Le Van Hieu decided to resign as the President of the club after a series of poor results. His successor, Mr. Vu Nam Thang - is known for his ability to manage finances instead of sports activities.
The choice of Hien to hand over the team to a young leader without much experience has raised doubts. In Da Nang at that time, young players were not able to shoulder the responsibility while the older players declined too quickly.
Mr. Thang debuted alongside new colleagues, head coach Cristiano Roland and assistants. But then, Mr. Roland could not change the situation and had to leave the "hot seat". He was replaced by Mr. Le Duc Tuan.
The historical comeback
In parallel with the appointment of coach Le Duc Tuan, Da Nang adjusted the coaching staff with the appearance of former midfielder Pham Nguyen Sa and defender Nguyen Quoc Long. This duo provides tactical thinking, youthful energy and "steel" spirit - something that many Da Nang fans lack.
The contract with Bui Tien Dung brought a turning point that changed Da Nang's entire season. It was this goalkeeper who scored in the decisive match against Binh Dinh. He pushed Cong Phuong's penalty in the play-off match and Ha Minh Tuan immediately scored a few minutes later.
Other new recruits such as Duc Anh, Cassio, Thiago or Emerson Souza all contributed their own, helping Da Nang escape the danger at the last minute.
"We consider Mr. Thang as a brother in the family. He is always passionate and makes players want to fight on the pitch. But it's difficult to interview my team president, he likes to take his children to school and then come home to drink beer," striker Ha Minh Tuan humorously shared.
When we offered an interview, Mr. Vu Nam Thang said: "The sponsor and the leaders trust me to assign the work, so I will try my best. The relegation zone makes me sleep better, but being over 40 years old and having all my hair gray is a bad guy.
I don't know what to say but I just tell everyone to keep my thoughts true. Being promoted is very embarrassing and a mistake for the people of Da Nang, the previous generation of seniors and those who are paying me. That's all."
Da Nang will not yet escape the dangerous spiral in the next season. To rebuild the team, more time, money, and enthusiasm will be needed. For Mr. Vu Nam Thang, the 2024-2025 season is a treasure trove of experience for a long process of football waiting for this leader.
