U17 Vietnam continued their impressive journey with a ticket to the semi-finals of the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship. Coach Cristiano Roland's team passed the group stage with the top spot in Group A, after 2 wins and 1 draw, scoring 14 goals and not conceding a goal.
The results of U17 Vietnam in the past nearly two years have a clear mark of Cristiano Roland. Under the guidance of the Brazilian coach, the youth team maintains a stable record with an unbeaten streak spanning many stages, in which the highlight is winning a ticket to the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals and playing evenly against strong opponents such as Japan, Australia or UAE.
At the regional level, U17 Vietnam continues to show certainty when keeping a clean sheet in many matches and maintaining high scoring efficiency.

Mr. Roland's U17 Vietnam team is organized with a disciplined playing style. The 4-1-4-1 formation is maintained throughout, helping to balance between defense and attack.
Coach Roland's dedicated attacking philosophy is clearly shown by the number of goals that U17 Vietnam has scored in 22 matches: 61 goals. In the opposite direction, the defense ability of the youth team is also very commendable when they have only conceded 13 times, mostly against strong continental opponents.
Before taking on the role of head coach of U17 Vietnam in 2024, Mr. Roland had worked with youth teams and accumulated coaching experience in many different environments. However, his foundation came from a long playing career in both South America and Europe.
Born in 1976 in Porto Alegre (Brazil), coach Cristiano Roland grew up in the Grêmio training system before moving to Vasco da Gama and participating in the Brazilian national championship in 1997.
After that, he went to Europe to play, mainly in Portugal. This period helped this coach access a modern football environment, which values tactical thinking and organization.
One of the few details mentioned is that Mr. Roland is not a prominent player in terms of reputation, but is highly appreciated for his ability to read the game and maintain stability. These factors became the foundation for his coaching style later, when he prioritized discipline and systematism rather than dependence on individuals.

Mr. Roland's career is deeply associated with Vietnamese football when he joined Hanoi T&T in 2009. In the role of center-back and captain, he and the team won many titles, and at the same time made an impression of professional fighting spirit.
After retiring, the Brazilian strategist continued to stay in Vietnam to work in youth training, gradually shifting to the role of coach.
From the results achieved with U17 Vietnam, it can be seen that coach Roland not only brings changes in playing style but also contributes to shaping the way young players are developed in a long-term direction. Current achievements are the basis for the team to continue to aim for bigger goals in the region and continent.
