Recently, the Singapore team finalized the list of 25 players for the ASEAN Cup 2026.
Coach Gavin Lee continues to place his trust in the familiar squad with many experienced faces such as Irfan Fandi, Ilhan Fandi, Lionel Tan, Song Uiyoung and Harhys Stewart. Among them, Harhys Stewart is the only player in the squad playing abroad.
Notably, the return of veteran goalkeeper Ridhuan Barudin. The 39-year-old goalkeeper was called up to replace Rudy Khairullah who could not participate due to injury. Ridhuan impressed in the Hougang United shirt in the final stage of the Singapore Premier League season.
In addition, versatile defender Akram Azman will also return to the national team after his last appearance for Singapore in the match against Thailand in November 2025.
Singapore will kick off the ASEAN Cup 2026 campaign with a guest trip to Cambodia on July 24. After that, the team will successively host Timor Leste (July 27), play away against Vietnam (July 31), and then close the group stage with a match against Indonesia at home on July 7.
To prepare for this challenge, the Singapore team had a training trip to Okinawa (Japan). Coach Gavin Lee said that the training program was built to help players adapt to the continuous competition intensity as well as the high requirements for physical strength and spirit in a short-term tournament.
We want players to get used to facing strong opponents, adapt to the very short break time between matches, as well as meet the physical and mental requirements that are always present in a cup format tournament," he shared.
This coach also emphasized that the coaching staff wants to build bravery for the players in difficult circumstances in the tournament.
Throughout this journey, we have always reminded each other that the future of the team depends on our own performance. If the whole team maintains stable form and plays to their best ability, we will get closer to the goal of building a national team that Singaporean fans can be proud of," coach Gavin Lee said.
