England had a difficult journey at EURO 2020 before reaching the final. Except for the easy victory over Ukraine, most of England's matches have made this team "ted up".
For Jordan Pickford personally, this goalkeeper continues the "tradition" of making mistakes of previous England goalkeepers. In the semi-final against Denmark alone, the Everton goalkeeper had harmful passes to the opponent's players, but luckily for him, Damsgaard, Braithwaite, Dolberg could not take advantage of them successfully.
Commenting on Pickford's performance in the semi-finals, goalkeeper Dinh Xuan Viet shared: "He has high concentration, quick reflexes but is a bit clumsy when handling the ball. Perhaps the pressure of the match made Pickford's mentality tense and confused in some situations.
Modern football requires goalkeepers to play with their feet more. I think Pickford needs to improve his footwork, try to control the ball with his feet a little better. He will develop even more in the future".
At EURO 2020, Jordan Pickford set a record of keeping a clean sheet in 5 consecutive matches, including 3 matches against Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic in the group stage, Germany in the round of 16 and Ukraine in the quarter-finals. This achievement of his is surpassing the milestone of 4 consecutive clean sheets of his senior Gordon Banks at the 1966 World Cup of England.
"Before the tournament, many people suspected that PickFord would lose his place in the England team, not to mention that this team was not highly appreciated. However, the Three Lions made it to the final, this success came from the efforts of the whole team, especially Pickford herself, when overcoming huge psychological pressures before the season. We also have to give credit to the England defenders who played well in front of Pickford's goal," the veteran V.League goalkeeper added.
Finally, goalkeeper Dinh Xuan Viet said: "At Pickford, there are advantages that young Vietnamese goalkeepers need to learn from. That is the resilience, the high concentration and always knowing how to overcome mistakes even while the match is still taking place".
