Center back Gustavo has the opportunity to wear the Vietnam national team jersey when coach Kim Sang-sik and VFF have just proposed to naturalize this player.

On September 19, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Public Security requesting support for Vietnamese naturalization for player Sant Ana Santos Gustavo.

The document clearly stated: "To continue the success of Vietnamese football in the following years, especially towards the World Cup qualifiers, with the goal of realizing the dream of attending the World Cup of the national men's football team, after a period of monitoring and evaluating the expertise, it is noted that player Sant Ana Santos Gustavo ( brited nationality) playing as a central defender for SHB Da Nang football club is a player with expertise and talent, suitable for Vietnamese football".

Based on the proposal of the Vietnam Football Federation and the proposal of Mr. Kim Sang-sik, in order to take advantage of and promote sports talents to contribute to the development of Vietnamese sports in general and Vietnamese football in particular, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested the Ministry of Justice to support the procedures for naturalizing Gustavo as a Vietnamese citizen; at the same time, the Ministry of Public Security supported the procedures for granting a Permanent Residence and Vietnamese Citizenhip Card to Gustavo.

As for center back Gustavo, he started his career playing in Vietnam in 2019, playing for Viettel, Saigon, Song Lam Nghe An, Than Quang Ninh, Dong A Thanh Hoa clubs and is currently playing for SHB Da Nang.

Accordingly, he and the Thanh team won the bronze medal of the 2022 National Cup, won the 2023 National Cup, won the 2023-2024 National Cup, won the 2023 National Super Cup and won the 2023-2024 National Super Cup.
