On September 19, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee issued a press release on a number of violations in medical examination and treatment activities at the Department of Nephrology - Urology, Central Highlands General Hospital.
Accordingly, since July 22, the working group of the provincial Department of Health has inspected and evaluated the professional activities of the Central Highlands General Hospital.
Through the work, the inspection team discovered that there were 480 cases of laser stone cages performed at the hospital in the process when the machine was broken and no longer in use.
Of these, after screening, 255 cases of laser gravel canopy were accounted for incorrectly. These cases were deployed during the period when the machines were broken but were still being accounted for.
Based on the conclusion of the inspection team, the Department of Health has directed the Central Highlands General Hospital to organize a review to overcome the shortcomings and violations and clarify the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals.
On August 20, the Disciplinary Council of the Central Highlands General Hospital held a meeting, reviewed and issued a disciplinary decision for 3 doctors and 1 nurse related to the incident.
At the same time, the Department of Health and the Central Highlands General Hospital provided relevant records and documents to the Dak Lak Provincial Police for investigation in accordance with the provisions of law.
Currently, the Standing Committee of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee has assigned the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee to inspect when there are signs of violations against the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Highlands General Hospital.
At the same time, the Dak Lak Provincial Police Party Committee was assigned to direct the continued investigation and handling of the case to ensure strictness, no forbidden areas, no exceptions and in accordance with the provisions of law.
As Lao Dong reported, the Central Highlands General Hospital only has one stone laser machine and this device has been determined to be broken since November 2023.
However, the unusual thing is that since then, the unit has recorded nearly 500 patients having kidney stones.
Mr. Nay Phi La - Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health - said: "This is a very serious incident. In this case, it was not a professional mistake. Here, hospital staff have declared and falsified the kidney stone surgery records and show signs of insurance fraud".
Regarding the incident, 2 officials at the Central Highlands General Hospital have been suspended from work.
