According to Bangladeshi newspapers, the decision was agreed upon by the National Team Committee (NTC) of the BFF in a meeting on August 14. The Bangladesh team was contacted by host Indonesia after India asked to withdraw to focus on preparing for the international friendly match with Brazil.
FIFA ASEAN Cup is a tournament sponsored by FIFA, gathering 8 teams and divided into 2 groups. Matches are scheduled to take place in Indonesia from September 4 to October 4.
Mr. Sayed Hasan Kanon - Member of the BFF Executive Committee said that he has proposed two options for members to choose, either accepting to participate in the FIFA ASEAN Cup, or organizing a 4-team tournament in Dhaka.
BFF President and President of the National Team Committee (NTC) Tabith Awal has consulted with NTC members about participating in the FIFA ASEAN Cup or organizing a 4-team tournament in Dhaka," said Mr. Sayed Hasan Kanon.
NTC members then agreed to choose the option of going to Indonesia to compete. The Bangladesh team sees this as an opportunity to prepare for the SAFF Championship, because the tournament has the participation of higher-rated opponents.
In addition to professional factors, the Bangladesh team also receives a participation fee, while the host Indonesia supports accommodation and air tickets. Mr. Kanon said that this is a more suitable option than self-organizing the 4-team tournament in Dhaka.
BFF and the secretariat will complete the next procedures, including sending a letter of confirmation of participation to the organizing committee.
