Pre-match information
At 7:30 p.m. today (December 9), the Myanmar team will host the Indonesian team at home, in the opening match of Group B at the ASEAN Cup 2024.
In terms of force, in this year's tournament, the team from the archipelago does not have the service of naturalized stars like in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, because the home clubs do not release players.
The current Indonesian squad consists mostly of young players from the U22 age group. Accordingly, there are 2 players over 21 years old: defender Pratama Arhan (born in 2001) and Asnawi Mangkualam (born in 1999). The remaining players were all born after 2003, the youngest being striker Arkhan Kaka (born in 2007).
Notably, 16 out of 24 Indonesian players participating in the 2024 ASEAN Cup have never played for the national team before. Coach Shin Tae-yong himself also expressed concern because his players' physical strength does not meet professional requirements.
On the other side, Myanmar is considered one of the two weakest teams in Group B, along with Laos. According to head coach Myo Hlaing Win, Myanmar has prepared carefully for the 2024 AFF Cup, including strategy, player rotation and predicting different situations.
