According to local media, the Malaysian team will continue to compete at KLFA Stadium in Cheras in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-finals with the Vietnamese team. This means that Bukit Jalil National Stadium has not yet been used, due to the replacement of the track to prepare for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) next year.
The Malaysian team has confirmed the venue for the first leg semi-final match with the Vietnamese team through its social media channels.
Previously, the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (MSC) confirmed to local media that Bukit Jalil Stadium will be closed from June to September 2026 to repair the track, making it unable to be used for this year's ASEAN Cup.
Bukit Jalil Stadium has a capacity of more than 87,000 seats. This is one of the largest and most modern stadiums in Southeast Asia. This stadium was once the venue where the Malaysian team played many matches against the Vietnamese team in the past.
In 2025, the Malaysian team won 4-0 in June 2025, in the framework of the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. But then, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) defeated Malaysia 0-3 due to using players against regulations.
Meanwhile, KLFA stadium is smaller in scale, with a capacity of only 18,000 seats. In the last group stage match, more than 12,000 spectators were present here to cheer for the Malaysian team to defeat the Philippines team 1-0, thereby winning a ticket to the semi-finals.
According to the schedule, the first leg semi-final between Malaysia vs Vietnam will take place at 9:00 PM on August 16 at KLFA stadium. The second leg will be played at My Dinh Stadium 3 days later.
