The Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking opinions on the plan to take a break from Vietnam Culture Day 2026, Tet Nguyen Dan and National Day 2027.
For civil servants and public employees, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposes 2 Tet Nguyen Dan 2027 holiday options. In which, option 1 is 5 days off according to regulations, including 2 days before Tet and 3 days after Tet; including 2 days off to compensate for weekly days off, the total holiday time is 7 consecutive days. The Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to choose this option.
For employees, the Tet holiday schedule is implemented according to a separate plan, based on the actual conditions of each enterprise. Employers choose one of the following plans: 1 day at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 4 days at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui; 2 days at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 3 days at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui; or 3 days at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 2 days at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui.
Employers notify employees of the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday plan at least 30 days before implementation.
If the weekly holiday coincides with the holiday and Tet holiday specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange for compensatory weekly holiday for the employee on the next working day according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam - a worker working at Di An Industrial Park (HCMC) - said that among the 3 proposed options, she leaned towards the option of taking leave for the last 3 days of the year Binh Ngo and the first 2 days of the year Dinh Mui.
According to Ms. Tam, for workers far from home, having early leave before Tet will be more convenient for travel, especially when the number of people returning to their hometown increases in the days leading up to Tet. More importantly, she hopes that the holiday schedule will be arranged smoothly so that they do not have to return to work in the middle of the holiday.
My hometown is in Can Tho, every time I return to my hometown, it takes a lot of travel time. If I have to return to work in the middle of the holiday and then continue to rest, it is very inconvenient, both time-consuming and incurring additional costs. If I can have continuous leave, I can return to my hometown once, and return to work once after Tet," Ms. Tam shared.
According to the female worker, the option of 3 days off at the end of the year and 2 days at the beginning of the year helps workers have more time to prepare for Tet in their hometowns, and at the same time be more proactive in arranging travel schedules.
Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment (Ministry of Home Affairs) - said that building a holiday and Tet holiday plan in 2027 early is the basis for officials, civil servants, public employees, businesses and employees to proactively plan their work, production, and business.
Regarding the 2 Tet Nguyen Dan holiday options, Mr. Trung agreed with the proposal to choose option 1 so that the holiday can last 7 consecutive days.
With option 1, officials and civil servants start having holidays from Thursday, which is December 28th of the lunar calendar. In my opinion, this is a suitable starting time for holidays so that each person has time to prepare for Tet and move back to their hometown more conveniently," Mr. Trung analyzed.
According to Mr. Trung, if the holiday starts from December 29 according to option 2, workers may have difficulty moving back to their hometowns and shopping for Tet.
In addition, Mr. Trung requested businesses to ensure good salary and Tet bonus regimes for employees, thereby creating motivation for them to continue to stick with the business.
