The match between Quang Nam club and The Cong Viettel in round 17 of V.League 2024-2025 at My Dinh Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw, but a bigger worry appeared when center back Vu Tien Long suffered a serious injury and will likely have to miss a long time.
The incident occurred in the 33rd minute when Quang Nam was temporarily leading 1-0. There was no collision, after just a seemingly normal ground kick, Vu Tien Long collapsed onto the field with a pained face. The subsequent diagnostic results showed that he had a severed anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg. This is a serious injury that requires immediate surgery.
On the evening of April 6, Quang Nam quickly brought an adult player from the Hanoi club training center to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the surgery, scheduled to take place today (April 10).
Vu Tien Long's injury disappointed coach Van Sy Son. He shared a picture of the unfinished My Dinh Stadium on his personal page with a state of frustration, implicitly criticizing unsafe competition conditions.
Before the match, Quang Nam club expressed concern about the quality of the field, however, the match was still allowed to be organized by VPF after checking on April 3.
Previously, also in a match at My Dinh Stadium on March 30, another player, Pham Ly Duc of Hoang Anh Gia Lai, also suffered a knee injury.
