Vietnam U17 women's team will face Australia U17 women's team in the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship - a match that decides the ticket to the U17 women's World Cup.

On the afternoon of May 8, Group B of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship finals determined the rankings after the last match in the group stage.

Accordingly, Japan U17 women's team easily defeated Australia U17 women's team with a score of 5-0, thereby leading Group B. Despite losing the match, Australia U17 women's team still secured the second place in the group, because in the match at the same time, Lebanon U17 women's team lost 0-4 to India U17 women's team.

According to the draw distribution in the quarterfinals, Vietnam U17 women's team will face the team ranked 2nd in Group B. Thus, the opponent of coach Okiyama Masahiko's team in the knockout round is Australia U17 women's team.

Notably, the winning team in the quarterfinals (i.e., winning the right to enter the semi-finals) of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship will have a ticket to participate in the U17 Women's World Cup finals. This is an opportunity but also a very big challenge for Vietnam U17 women's team, especially when the kangaroo team is rated slightly higher in terms of physique, fitness and expertise.

Previously, in the group stage, Vietnam U17 women's team won second place in Group A with 4 points after 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. The first team in Group A is China U17 women's team with 3 consecutive wins.

According to the schedule, the quarter-final match between Vietnam U17 women's team and Australia U17 women's team is scheduled to take place at 2:00 PM on May 11.
