What is irregular menstruation?
Irregular menstrual cycles are when periods do not follow a regular cycle, and may come early or late, or even be absent. Signs include:
- Menstrual cycle shorter than 24 days or longer than 38 days.
- Menstruation is less than 2 days or more than 7 days.
- Menstrual blood volume is too little or too much.
- Menstrual blood has strange color, is lumpy and has many blood clots.
- Severe menstrual symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, back pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.
What causes irregular menstruation after marriage?
In a study published in the journal BMC Women's Health, marriage was found to be one of the reasons for irregular periods. Here are some of the reasons:
Stress: After marriage, due to changes in living environment, many people fall into a state of prolonged stress. Stress triggers the release of cortisol, which can affect the production of reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, disrupting the hormonal balance that regulates the menstrual cycle.
Weight changes: Sudden changes in weight can affect the regularity of your menstrual cycle. Adipose tissue (fat) plays a role in estrogen production, and significant changes in weight can disrupt the hormonal balance.
Changes in physical activity: After marriage, due to family commitments, many people have to change their physical activity habits, which can affect their menstrual cycle. High-intensity exercise can lead to low body fat, affecting hormone levels, while a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to weight gain and hormonal imbalance.
Dietary changes: Changes in eating habits after marriage can affect the menstrual cycle. A diet high in refined sugar and low in essential nutrients can disrupt hormone production and regulation.
Contraception: Starting, stopping, or changing birth control methods can affect your menstrual cycle. Hormonal contraceptives such as pills, IUDs, and implants alter your natural hormone balance to prevent pregnancy, which can lead to irregular periods.
