Do Huynh Tan, a worker at Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant (Bao Loc City, Lam Dong), said he is still waiting for his salary. According to Tan, Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company (the investor and operator of Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant) owes him more than 40 million VND in salary.
“I came here from Trang Bom district (Dong Nai province) to work with the hope of earning an income to support my family. However, after many months of working in a toxic environment, the company did not pay me. For the past few days, I have had no money to eat. Luckily, the People's Committee of Dai Lao commune supported me with some rice, instant noodles, fish sauce and salt,” said Mr. Tan.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Thang - representative of the labor collective working at Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant - said that all the laborers come from many places and have very difficult family lives. However, all the laborers have been owed wages by the company for a long time. The laborers' already difficult lives have become even more miserable.
“Like myself, despite having to do toxic and tiring work, I have not been able to send any money home to my wife and children for many months. Currently, my family and many other workers have to pay for their children’s school fees for the new school year, but still have no salary. It is very difficult. We hope that the authorities will intervene promptly so that the company can pay salaries soon,” Mr. Thang hoped.
Regarding the case of Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company owing wages to its employees, the authorities of Bao Loc City have received information. Accordingly, this company owes its employees wages from December 2023 to July 2024, with a total amount of more than 1.7 billion VND.
Through working with the People's Committee of Bao Loc City, Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company promised to settle part of the salary for workers before September 15 to stabilize their lives. Then, in September 2024, the company will completely settle the salary and insurance payment owed to all workers of more than 1.7 billion VND. However, as of September 18, no worker working at Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant has received an advance salary.
The fact that the company has not paid salaries has seriously affected the rights and legitimate interests of the workers here. At the same time, the incident has caused negative public opinion about the responsibility of Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company in taking care of the workers.
