Breakfast is considered an important meal to help the body start the metabolism process after a night of rest.
However, not all foods are suitable for kidney health. Especially for people with impaired kidney function or at risk of chronic kidney disease, choosing food in the morning needs to be carefully considered to avoid creating additional burdens for this organ.
One of the food groups that should be restricted is foods that are too salty. Many Vietnamese people have a habit of breakfasting with instant noodles, rich broth noodles, canned foods or processed foods such as sausages, cold cuts. These products often contain high levels of sodium.
According to medical experts, consuming too much sodium can increase blood pressure and cause the kidneys to work harder to excrete excess salt. In the long run, this can negatively affect the kidney's filtration function.
In addition, high-sugar foods such as industrial sweets, milk tea or soft drinks for breakfast are also not ideal choices. A high-sugar diet increases the risk of overweight, obesity and type 2 diabetes. These are all top risk factors leading to kidney damage. When blood sugar increases for a long time, small blood vessels in the kidneys may be damaged, reducing the ability of this organ to filter waste.
Housewives should also be cautious with dishes containing too much processed protein such as bacon, sausage or salted meats. Protein is a necessary nutrient for the body, but consuming too many protein-rich foods with high salt content can increase metabolic pressure on the kidneys, especially in people who have had kidney disease before.
Regularly eating breakfast with greasy fried foods is also not beneficial. A diet rich in saturated fat can increase the risk of metabolic disorders, obesity and cardiovascular disease, conditions closely related to kidney function decline.
To protect kidney health, housewives should prioritize a balanced breakfast with whole grains, green vegetables, fresh fruits, low-fat milk and quality protein sources such as eggs, fish or lean meat in moderation.
Limiting salt, sugar and processed foods in breakfast not only helps the kidneys function more efficiently but also contributes to improving overall health for the whole family.
