In May 2025, the "Union Shelter" program will be widely implemented at all levels of Vietnam Trade Union, bringing many practical benefits, helping union members and workers realize their dream of settling down and improving their lives.

Ensuring the right beneficiaries of "Union Shelter" support

On the occasion of Workers' Month 2025, Chairman of the Hanoi City Labor Federation Pham Quang Thanh visited and presented support to union member Nguyen Thi Thanh (Union of Stanley Vietnam Electricity Company Limited) and union member Hoang Thi Ngoan (Union of Gia Lam Urban Environment Joint Stock Company).

Union members Nguyen Thi Thanh and Hoang Thi Ngoan both have difficult housing circumstances.

Union member Hoang Thi Ngoan, previously living in a dilapidated level 4 house with peeling walls and leaky roofs. In 2010, her husband died in a traffic accident, she raised 2 children alone. From the support of the Trade Union organization (each union member is supported with 40 million VND), the union members have been motivated to build a spacious, solid house for their families to live in peace.

Up to now, in Workers' Month 2025, the "Union Shelter" of union member Nguyen Thi Thanh and union member Hoang Thi Ngoan has been completed.

Chairman of the Hanoi City Labor Federation Pham Quang Thanh congratulated the union members on having a new, spacious house to stabilize their lives and highly appreciated the Gia Lam District Labor Union at all levels for promptly grasping the aspirations and circumstances of cases with difficult housing circumstances so that the City Labor Federation can support the construction of a "Union Shelter", ensuring the right target.

"It can be affirmed that the Trade Union Shelter program is a support for union members and workers in difficult circumstances who cannot afford to repair or build new houses. This is one of the profoundly humane activities of the Trade Union organization, contributing to the implementation of social security policies, creating trust and enhancing the position of the Trade Union organization in society, in the hearts of workers, especially workers in difficult circumstances - Mr. Pham Quang Thanh expressed.

It is known that from the beginning of 2025 to now, the Hanoi City Labor Federation has completed the handover of 25 out of a total of 39 "Union Shelters" to union members in the area. It is expected that all remaining numbers will be handed over this year.

A sturdy house, assured of victory in the face of storms

During the Workers' Month 2025, many union members and workers in Bac Giang province were supported to build and repair the Trade Union Shelter so that they can work with peace of mind and take better care of their families.

On May 9, the Yen The District Labor Federation (Bac Giang Province) held an inauguration ceremony for the Trade Union Shelter for union members: Nguyen Thi Ngai (Bo Ha Town Trade Union), To Thi Thu Ha (An Thuong Kindergarten Trade Union), and Nguyen Thi Thu (Tan Hiep Commune Trade Union, Yen The District). Ms. Ngai's family was supported with 40 million VND; Ms. Thu and Ms. Ha's families were each supported with 30 million VND, with a total cost of 100 million VND.

Ms. To Thi Thu Ha's family has 4 members, including 2 young children who are in school. She herself has neuropathic pain and vestibular disorders, and often has to undergo long-term treatment. Her husband works in the fields, has lung limorrhea, cannot do heavy work, and the family's economy is very difficult.

On June 3, when talking to reporters, Ms. To Thi Thu Ha still felt excited and happy when her family's dream house came true after many years.

The family of this preschool teacher has lived in a level 4 house since 2006. The house is old and degraded. During Typhoon Yagi last year, her family had to "e evacuate" to prevent collapse.

"I have dreamed of owning a new house for a long time, but I have not been able to do so due to lack of financial conditions" - Ms. Ha said. Before building a house, her income was more than 10 million VND, while her husband had no income. This amount of money is only enough for them to raise their children and cover the living expenses of the whole family.

With support from the Trade Union Shelter Fund of Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labor with an amount of 30 million VND, Ms. Ha boldly borrowed from banks, relatives and friends to build a new roof on the old land. The total cost of building the house was about 400 million VND.

Currently, the couple has to pay bank interest of 1 million VND/month; pay the principal quarterly. Although I have to worry about paying off my debt, "since I moved into my new house, I have felt happy. Thanks to the new roof, I feel more secure in raising my children better and being attached to work" - Ms. Ha shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu's case is also in a very difficult situation. She has no home, is a single household, and raises two young children. The eldest daughter has respiratory disease, has to undergo long-term treatment, and is expensive. In the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngai, who currently has no house, she has to stay at her parents' house. The family has 2 children, of which the son born in 2008 is seriously ill, often sick, and has had to be hospitalized since 2018.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Luu Van Thang - Chairman of the Yen The District Labor Federation - said that there are still more than 20 households in the district that need support to repair and rebuild the "Union Shelter". These are all cases of union members in difficulty, sick, ill, and raising children alone.

The Chairman of the Yen The District Labor Federation highly appreciated this activity, saying that this is an activity to care for union members and workers, clearly demonstrating the task of the Trade Union organization, bringing joy to union members, so that they have a real home so that they can work with peace of mind, thereby motivating them to be more attached to the enterprise and the Trade Union organization.

According to the Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labor, in the first 6 months of the year, the Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labor has supported 10 union members and workers to build and repair "Union Shelters", with a support level of 25 - 50 million VND/house for a total of 370 million VND.

In the first 5 months of 2025, trade unions at all levels supported the construction and repair of 1,097 "Union Shelters" with a total support amount of more than 52 billion VND.
