This stance was raised during Kim Jong-un's meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Pyongyang on June 4.
North Korean state media quoted Kim Jong-un as saying he strongly supported Russia's foreign policies, emphasizing the belief that Russia would win in its "sacred duty to justice".
The meeting took place in the context of increasingly expanding relations between the two countries. North Korea and Russia signed a comprehensive military agreement last year, including a mutual defense clause. Mr. Shoigu is currently visiting Pyongyang for the second time in less than 3 months.
North Korean media said the two sides agreed to continue to dy actively expand bilateral relations. Meanwhile, North Korea first confirmed in April that it had sent troops to Russia to provide support in the conflict with Ukraine, and admitted that some of the soldiers had died.
The meeting between Kim Jong-un and Shoigu took place on the same day as the inauguration of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. Although the new South Korean president expressed his desire for dialogue and cooperation with Pyongyang, North Korea only reported briefly on the event and did not respond to the call for a communication channel.
