30 years old, applying for a job, experience is no longer an advantage

According to some managers, the experience of candidates over 30 years old is no longer an advantage of applying for a job when the requirements of employers are becoming increasingly strict.

Ms. Pham Thu Uyen (30 years old) - a human resources administrative worker in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi said that she "disappointed" a Gen Z candidate (born between 1997 and 2012) when interviewing for a job.

"The employer mentioned the skills of content creation to keep up with trends, confidence in cameras and AI, I lost points against another 25-year-old candidate" - Ms. Uyen said.

Mr. Nguyen Cuong - Head of Marketing Department in Cau Giay District, Hanoi said that although people over 30 years old have a lot of experience, sometimes this is no longer in line with the current trend.

"Age is not the same as many years of experience. Previously, the company needed talented people to write articles on the website, but now, I need creatives who can write impressive video scripts to attract viewers on social networks" - Mr. Cuong said.

Mr. Cuong said that the current working experience of people over 30 years old is only used for one aspect of the job. The company will prioritize candidates who are capable of bringing in good revenue in the fastest time.

Experience is evaluated through revenue, actual performance, not age or working time. To be effective, employees must know many new, modern things that are suitable for the trend" - Mr. Cuong shared.

The male head of the department added that there are people who, despite a long number of years of work, only repeat the same job. To achieve the best results at work, candidates must add many other skills or be good at the market trends they really need.

According to Mr. Cuong, AI, video is a trend. If you know how to use AI, edit videos and are confident in front of the camera, even if you have just graduated, you can easily receive them, even receive a much higher salary than those over 30 years old but weak in these areas.

Ms. Le Thi Huong - head of a department of an import-export company in Hanoi shared that she likes to work with young people.

Ms. Huong said that Gen Z meets the work quite effectively. There are jobs that Gen Z does quite quickly, but on the contrary, many jobs of Gen Z, people over 30 years old, are very difficult to do.

On the other hand, according to the female head of the department, AI has done many things for the elderly such as writing content and producing scripts. Gen Z is not afraid to challenge new jobs. They are quite proficient in using information technology, especially AI, so they will effectively do the work of their predecessors.

According to Ms. Huong, experience needs to be consistent with reality. As an employee, Ms. Huong herself still prioritizes recruiting young people, while for management positions, she will propose to lead the recruitment of older people.

Many U30 staff demand higher salaries than outdated experience. This, according to the female head of the department, accidentally lost points in interviews, making it even more difficult to get a job.
