Freelancer struggles with AI

Quang Minh |

With the strong development of AI, many freelancers ( freelancers) are struggling to make a living.

Ms. Pham Thi Vinh (33 years old) - a freelancer in Ha Dong district, Hanoi said that since the introduction of AI (artificial intelligence) tools, her number of customers has decreased by more than half. Ms. Vinh's job is to do marketing for individuals and businesses.

"The marketing sector all has AI tools to support from writing articles, marketing strategy consulting or landing page design. Customers only need to hire someone who is knowledgeable about AI to operate, not need to hire many employees or even a marketing team like before - Ms. Vinh said.

Surfing forums and groups to find new customers, Ms. Vinh noticed that there are many posts recruiting freelancers but the salary is quite low. The reason is that the employer clearly states that AI can be used to support, workers only need to take corrections so they cannot pay high salaries.

New customers are hard to find, old customers are also "turning their backs" because AI makes Ms. Vinh even more worried. Ms. Vinh's previous acquaintances using the service of writing articles and designing landing pages and websites have now also switched to using AI.

Looking at it objectively, Ms. Vinh shared that AI use is very convenient, fast and costless. Even spending more money to upgrade to a better version is much cheaper than hiring a contractor as before.

Ms. Vinh said that young people today are quite proficient in using AI. In addition to their main work, they also use AI to do extra work outside. Because using AI to do it takes less time, many people have offered low prices to attract customers, making it more difficult for Ms. Vinh to compete, her income has decreased by more than half.

In the same situation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang (28 years old, a freelancer living in Nam Dinh) said that her work is also being gradually replaced by AI. Currently, Ms. Thu is working as a fanpage staff and recording online for brands.

For both recording, text message response and bidding, current AI applications can meet 80%. Just spend a few hundred thousand VND to buy automatic chat software or convert online voice for users to meet the requirements" - Ms. Trang said.

The female freelancer's customers are mainly individuals and small brands. They do not care too much about professionalism, efficiency, but the best cost optimization will be chosen and AI is the perfect choice today.

Currently, Ms. Trang said that the number of customers has decreased by 2⁄3 compared to before. To avoid being eliminated by AI, Ms. Trang has to learn other jobs by herself, especially jobs that are difficult to replace by AI.

"Currently, I am practicing livestream. This work is a trend, at the same time, in our country, AI cannot replace humans in this work" - Ms. Trang said.

Ms. Trang also spent time learning more about AI, especially software related to the work she is doing. According to the female employee, she must understand technology well to know the disadvantages of AI to compete.

If they can't compete, Ms. Trang shared that they will use AI to serve their work. With AI support, the female employee said that the completion time is faster and will receive more customers, willing to accept low prices to maintain income.
