Caring for life, improving the rights of workers
On April 27 and 28, in Hanoi, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized a commendation ceremony for 101 outstanding grassroots trade union presidents in collective dialogue and negotiation in the period 2023 - 2025.
Among them, Mr. Pham Van Minh - Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Alliance One Garment Co., Ltd. and Mr. Le Van Tien - Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Ty Xuan Co., Ltd. (Vinh Long) - were honored to be praised this time.
According to Mr. Pham Van Minh, to negotiate effectively with employers, it is necessary to pay attention to the factor "heavenly time, geographical advantage, people's harmony", choosing the right time to make a beneficial proposal.
Mr. Minh said that when businesses need to complete orders urgently, the trade union mobilizes workers to work overtime, thereby creating consensus and creating a favorable basis for policy recommendations.
In the process of exchange, it is necessary to flexibly integrate recommendations. When businesses recognize the efforts of employees, reaching consensus will be more favorable," Mr. Minh added.

Alliance One Garment Co., Ltd. currently has more than 7,500 employees, of which female workers account for over 80%, trade union members reach a rate of over 96%, contributing to building a strong organization.
According to Mr. Minh, the trade union grasps the thoughts of workers through many channels such as suggestion boxes, social networks, and direct meetings, thereby promptly resolving arising conflicts. The Executive Committee of the grassroots trade union coordinates with businesses to sign collective labor agreements with many clauses that are more beneficial than regulations, especially for female workers, contributing to improving income and welfare.
Mr. Minh added that the trade union has proposed to increase meal allowances, increase allowances, and supplement support regimes, with a total value that benefits workers each year of over 50 billion VND. In addition, businesses coordinate with trade unions to improve the working environment, equip full labor protection, contributing to ensuring safety and health for workers in production.
According to Mr. Minh, the results achieved are thanks to the companionship between trade unions and businesses, in which the role of bridge helps harmonize interests and build sustainable labor relations.
Effective dialogue, building stable labor relations
According to Mr. Le Van Tien, dialogue and collective negotiation are key tasks, contributing to promoting grassroots democracy and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
Mr. Tien said that each year the business maintains periodic dialogues, and is ready to organize unexpected dialogues when problems arise, focusing on salaries, bonuses and working conditions. "To have effective dialogue, you must listen carefully, understand the thoughts of employees. When trust is built, everything will be more favorable," Mr. Tien said.
According to Mr. Tien, the opinions are summarized from many channels, reflecting the reality, helping dialogues not to be formalistic but to truly remove difficulties and create consensus.

Not only stopping at dialogue, Mr. Tien said that the trade union also proactively negotiates and signs collective labor agreements with many clauses that are more beneficial than regulations, improving welfare for workers.
Mr. Tien added that regularly sticking to the grassroots level, grasping the lives of workers helps the trade union promptly propose and resolve arising issues, limiting labor disputes. "The biggest reward is that the trust of workers is increasingly strengthened, life is gradually improved, contributing to building stable labor relations," Mr. Tien added.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thuy An, a worker at Ty Xuan Co., Ltd., Chairman Tien always stands for the rights of workers but still harmonizes with the business, creating a stable and long-term working environment.
According to the Organizing Committee, among the 101 trade union presidents commended, there are 33 women and 68 men; the youngest is 32 years old, the oldest is 75 years old, average age 53.5. The composition includes 17 trade union presidents of state-owned enterprises, 32 belonging to the private economic sector and 52 belonging to foreign-invested enterprises (FDI).
