Many landlords in Ho Chi Minh City have proactively invested in equipment, trained in fire prevention and fighting skills, contributing to improving the safety of thousands of workers and students renting accommodation.

Propaganda, fire prevention and fighting training for renters

At the boarding house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thuong (Phuoc Long A ward, Thu Duc city), Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cang - the tenant - took the opportunity to clean up and check the fire extinguisher. He said that he has been here for 2 years and every year is propagandized and trained in fire fighting and escape skills by the Fire Police and local authorities, thereby feeling secure living in the boarding house.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thuong, the landlord, said that when building the rental houses, they were all built according to fire prevention regulations. For example, power lines or escape routes when there are incidents are all carried out according to the advice of the fire prevention team. A row of boarding houses will have two escape routes at the beginning and end. For every 5 rooms, a fire extinguisher is equipped and assigned to the front row house for storage.

Every 3-6 months, the fire police and ward officers come to combine with general legal propaganda, regulations on fire prevention and fighting and training on fire prevention and fighting, escape skills for those staying at the rented room. During those training sessions, there were situations such as how to handle gas if there is a gas fire, how to extinguish the fire when there is an electric fire.

According to Ms. Thuong, this boarding house is divided into two groups. The group of students coordinated with the Ward Youth Union, the group of workers coordinated with the trade union system to propagate and implement fire prevention and fighting.

Thanks to the coordination and support of local authorities, the authorities through propaganda and fire prevention and fighting practice, thereby helping most tenants know the regulations on fire prevention and fighting, fire fighting skills and escape when there are incidents. In the near future, the ward police will coordinate with the family's boarding house to build a fire safety checkpoint in the boarding house" - Ms. Thuong said.

Mr. Ly Nguyen Minh Phuc - Member of the Standing Committee of the Thu Duc City Labor Federation - informed that Thu Duc City is a locality with a large number of workers living illegally and staying in boarding houses of people.

Therefore, the Thu Duc City Labor Federation is also very interested in training on general legal regulations and regulations on fire prevention and fighting for workers. On average, each year, Thu Duc City Labor Federation coordinates with police agencies and functional agencies to propagate the law in general, including regulations on fire safety from 15 to 20 inspections for about 2,000 - 3,000 workers in boarding houses.

Boarding house owners interested in investing in fire prevention and fighting equipment

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - the owner of a boarding house in Thanh Loc ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City - shared that his house has 160 rooms with about 400 people living there regularly.

Therefore, the issue of fire prevention and fighting safety has always been of concern to both the government and his family. Each row of about 20 rooms is equipped with a 4kg fire extinguisher, an 8kg bottle and a 32kg bottle and is equipped with room door breaking tools when necessary such as power cages and hammers. Fire prevention and fighting inspections are periodically and suddenly inspected by functional forces according to the district's requirements.

In his boarding house, there is a core team of 10 people who have been renting for a long time, who are trained by the district's authorities every year to comply with legal regulations as well as practice fire prevention and fighting skills.

According to Mr. Tran Tien Cang, manager of a boarding house in Phu Nhuan district, the landlord asked him to fully equip the boarding house with fire protection equipment such as anti-poison masks, wire stairs, fire protection rules, mini fire extinguishers, and fire bells to equip it in accordance with regulations.

This initiative brings great confidence to tenants. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ty, a tenant here, said: "Since the tenants have fully equipped all rooms with fire protection, I am very assured. Not only where I live but also the surrounding areas are more aware of ensuring fire safety".
