Since mid-2024, Ms. Pham Thi Yen (30 years old) often feels tired and pressured with work. The reason is that the company has a new manager who is not suitable for her, affecting the quality of her work.
Ms. Yen works in content creation, and it is very difficult for her ideas to be approved by the new manager. Not only that, she is often reprimanded and even fined when she is negligent or fails to meet KPIs.
“Working with my old manager, 90% of my ideas were approved. However, since the new manager came in, the approval rate has dropped by half,” said Ms. Yen.
Unsatisfactory ideas meant Ms. Yen had to write and rewrite them. This forced the female employee to open her laptop to work at night, sometimes even working on Sundays to complete the work.
The idea of quitting her job had been on Yen's mind since September, but she had not dared to do it. Partly because she was afraid it would be difficult to find a job at the end of the year, and partly because the 10 million VND Tet bonus was still there, and she would only receive it at the end of the year.
"My Tet bonus is calculated as an average monthly salary, about 10 million VND. I can't save much every month when I work. If I don't have a Tet bonus, I will definitely have to use my credit card to spend first and then borrow to pay back later for Tet 2025," said Ms. Yen.
After thinking it over, Ms. Yen decided that she had to receive her Tet bonus before quitting her job.
The Tet bonus is 2 months of average salary, plus productivity bonuses, vacation days... which makes Ms. Pham Thi Ngan (28 years old, Nam Dinh) not dare to quit her job even though every day at work is extremely hard and stressful.
“At the end of the year, the company delivers difficult-to-make products at low prices, which also affects our income. We are also forced to increase productivity without giving workers time to get used to it,” said Ms. Ngan.
Sharing more, Ms. Ngan said that in winter the company changes working hours, leaving 30 minutes earlier while the required output remains the same.
This makes female workers have to come 15 minutes early, eat lunch and work straight away, without any breaks. It is also very difficult to take time off for personal reasons, except in special cases where it is approved.
According to Ms. Ngan, at the company, Tet bonuses are monthly contributions from workers. That is, productivity bonuses, monthly leave days that are not taken are also accumulated at the end of the year to be spent on Tet bonuses. The expected amount is more than 20 million VND.
With the Tet bonus of more than 20 million VND, Ms. Ngan said she will use it to buy a new phone worth 8 million VND that she has been cherishing for the past six months. The remaining money, Ms. Ngan will give to both sets of parents and do all the Tet shopping.
The female worker plans to write a resignation letter after Tet. According to Ms. Ngan, choosing a company that offers low Tet bonuses but allows her to be proactive with her time and has many benefits is still better.
