On the morning of August 20, VETC Automatic Toll Collection Co., Ltd. said that this unit stopped deploying electronic wallet service fee collection to build a more appropriate solution.
According to VETC, this decision was made after the business recorded many mixed opinions from users related to the toll collection policy.
A representative of VETC said that the unit frankly acknowledges that the process of building, communication and planning to apply policies is not complete, has not met expectations and has not created a good experience as well as customer consensus.
At the same time, he affirmed that in reality, the VETC wallet system has not collected any fees to date.
We sincerely apologize to our customers for the recent concerns and poor experiences, and at the same time respectfully thank you for your trust, suggestions and companionship," VETC shared.
In the near future, in addition to clearly announcing existing payment methods and related costs, VETC will build goals and roadmaps to connect more payment methods, helping customers proactively choose the most suitable solution.
In parallel, VETC will continue to work with credit institutions, switching units and related partners; optimize the operating system and propose policies to reduce arising costs...
Previously, traffic fee payment applications such as VETC and ePass issued notices to collect fees for managing e-wallet accounts and transaction processing fees for users (including individuals and businesses). This information immediately recorded many mixed opinions from public opinion.
According to VETC's announcement, from August 1, 2026, the fee for managing VETC wallets is 6,600 VND/month/wallet for individuals and 66,000 VND/month/wallet for businesses, including VAT.
For Viettel Money e-wallet - a payment method connected to the ePass application's traffic account, it is also expected to collect transaction processing fees with accounts from August 2026.
However, as of August 19, Viettel Money also said that this unit only collects this fee from accounts that have generated vehicle transactions through the station in the previous month. That is, if the vehicle does not pass through the BOT station, customers will not have to pay an additional fee for the e-wallet link service.
Both VETC and ePass previously affirmed that the new fee is expected to be used to maintain and upgrade the technology infrastructure; operate and control transactions in real time. This fee is also aimed at enhancing security, service quality and ensuring continuous connection between e-wallets and traffic accounts 24/7.
At the same time, he affirmed that the recent policy is related to e-wallets, not traffic account management fees or road use fees.
