On the afternoon of July 28, the Can Tho City Labor Federation organized a meeting with trade union officials from various periods on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 – July 28, 2026).
At the conference, Chairwoman of Can Tho City Labor Federation Le Thi Suong Mai spoke to review the glorious 97-year history of formation and development of the Vietnam Trade Union organization. According to her, this is a sacred milestone, marking a major turning point of the workers' movement and the country's revolution.
The Chairman of the Can Tho City Labor Federation said that looking back at the 97-year journey, it is even more profound the value of the two words "Solidarity" and "Contribution". In particular, inheriting that glorious tradition, the workers' movement and the Trade Union activities of Can Tho City through various periods have also contributed very proud pages of history.
From emulation movements of good labor, creative labor to being united and determined to stabilize a strong organization after mergers and consolidations.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dong Van Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Can Tho City emphasized that this year's conference takes place in a very special context.
This is the time when it has just turned 1 year since the workers' movement and the Trade Union organization of Can Tho City operated according to a new organizational model after implementing the merger and reorganization of units and trade union organizations in the spirit of the Central Resolution and the direction of the Politburo on innovating the organization and operation of the Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation.
According to the Standing Deputy Secretary, the summary report on activities in the first 6 months of 2026 of the Executive Committee of the City Labor Federation term I has clearly demonstrated that. The movements "Tet Sum vay 2026", "Workers' Month 2026" are organized practically, strongly focusing on grassroots levels, directly caring for tens of thousands of union members and workers in difficult circumstances. The mobilization of the "Trade Union Shelter" fund continues to achieve and exceed targets, helping many workers' families settle down and work.
To further promote the achievements, the Standing Deputy Secretary requested the Trade Union levels of Can Tho City to continue to streamline and improve the management capacity and operational efficiency of the post-merger apparatus.
Focusing maximally on the function of representing, caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers. In addition, strongly innovate propaganda and political and ideological education associated with digital transformation.
The Standing Deputy Secretary clearly stated that launching patriotic emulation movements is practical and effective, avoiding formality. Actively participate in building a strong Party and political system.
On this occasion, authorized by the President, Mr. Dong Van Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Can Tho City awarded the Second-class Labor Medal to Ms. Huynh Thi Hien - former Standing Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City Labor Federation.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 collectives, the Can Tho City Labor Federation and the Grassroots Trade Union of Lac Ty II Co., Ltd. The Organizing Committee awarded the Medal "For the cause of building the Vietnam Trade Union organization" of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour to 11 individuals who have made many contributions to the cause of building and developing the Trade Union organization.
