1,000 gifts to support workers in difficult circumstances
Workers' Month 2026 takes place from May 1 to 31 with the theme "Vietnamese Workers: Innovation, improving labor productivity". This is not only an opportunity to honor the role of the working class but also a time for Trade Union levels to focus resources on practical care for union members.
This year, the Da Nang City Labor Federation allocated a budget of 1 billion VND to give 1,000 gifts, each worth 1 million VND, to union members and workers in difficult circumstances. Along with that, 10,000 shopping vouchers, worth a total of 1 billion VND, were also distributed to workers for use at the Workers' Fair scheduled to be held at the end of May.
The gifts, although not too large in material terms, have a clear meaning of sharing in the context that many workers are still under spending pressure due to rising living costs.
Ms. Huynh Le Thi Hoan Phi - a worker at Hoa Tho Phu Ninh Garment JSC (Chien Dan commune, Da Nang city) said that she has been attached to the business for more than 12 years and always feels the companionship of the Trade Union organization.
We workers all hope to have stable jobs, stable incomes and be cared for when facing difficulties. Support during Workers' Month or special occasions makes us feel like we are not left behind," Ms. Phi shared.
According to Ms. Phi, not only supporting gifts, businesses also have many policies for pregnant female workers and those raising young children, thereby helping workers feel secure in working for a long time.
According to Mr. Le Van Dai - Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Labor Federation, Workers' Month is not only about giving gifts but also towards building a long-term welfare ecosystem for union members.
We hope that each activity in Workers' Month must bring specific benefits, from material support to spiritual care, improve working conditions and promote dialogue at enterprises," Mr. Dai said.
According to Mr. Dai, along with the gift-giving program, city trade union levels will focus on organizing dialogues with businesses, grasping workers' thoughts, and promoting the implementation of welfare programs to improve workers' lives.
Spreading the care model from the grassroots level
Not waiting until Workers' Month to deploy support, many grassroots trade unions in Da Nang have maintained regular care activities, promptly sharing with union members in difficult circumstances.
Mr. Le Hoan Giang - Chairman of the Trade Union of Sedo Vinako One Member Limited Liability Company said that the unit always identifies taking care of union members as a key task.
According to Mr. Giang, the company's Trade Union currently maintains a policy of supporting 5 million VND for cases of deceased workers; 1 million VND when relatives of workers die; and at the same time supporting from 500,000 VND to 3 million VND for cases of illness and sudden difficulties.
Every year, the Trade Union Executive Committee also mobilizes internal resources to support cases of serious accidents and serious illnesses. On average, each case receives from 35 to 50 million VND. The important thing is that support comes at the right time, helping workers reduce pressure in times of hardship," Mr. Giang said.
In addition, before the pressure of rising fuel prices, some large enterprises in the area have also implemented gasoline money support for workers. This is an initiative that is considered practical because it hits the difficulties arising from daily life.
When workers are properly cared for, they have more motivation to overcome difficulties, feel secure in sticking with the business and make positive contributions to the overall development.
That is also the core value that Workers' Month aims for, which is not only to honor workers with words, but with specific, practical and persistent actions.
