Workers eagerly await free air tickets to return home for Tet

Many workers far from home are happy to receive information about receiving free air tickets in the "Trade Union Flight - Spring 2026" program organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL).

Many years away from home during Tet

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung (born in 1994, union member of Gain Lucky Vietnam Co., Ltd., Tay Ninh province) is very happy to be one of the people who received air tickets to return to his hometown of Phu Tho for Tet 2026.

Mr. Tung came to the South to start a business in 2021. Using Chinese fluently, he applied to work as an interpreter in the company. Currently, his income is about 12 million VND/month. To date, he still does not have the conditions to buy a private house. His parents in his hometown are old, do not have a pension, so life is still difficult.

In 5 years away from home, he has only returned home for Tet once. That time, he traveled by plane, and the fare for both directions was about 5 million VND. Every year he wanted to return to his hometown to visit his parents and relatives during Tet, but due to difficult economic conditions, for many years he had to be away from home at the moment of family reunion.

Receiving air tickets to return to my hometown for Tet from the Trade Union organization, I am very happy and touched. This is truly a meaningful activity, helping people who work far from home and have difficult lives like me to return to my hometown, reunite with relatives and family" - Mr. Tung shared.

First time flying home for Tet

For Ms. Pham Thi Huong (worker at Pou Hung Vietnam Company, Tay Ninh province), this will be the first time she will fly to her hometown to celebrate Tet. Ms. Huong said that she started working in the South in 2007. Nearly 20 years away from home, she has only returned home a few times to celebrate Tet with her family, all those trips are sleeper buses. "If the two mothers and daughters return to their hometown, go to sleeper buses, the ticket price for both returning and going is a total of 8 million VND," the female worker said.

When she received the news that she would have a plane ticket back to her hometown, Ms. Huong was very happy. Even happier, she would be supported with an additional family ticket. After considering, she will return to her youngest child's hometown for Tet this year. Although she wanted to buy more tickets so that the whole family could go home, because she did not have financial conditions, the two father and son had to stay.

My youngest child, when he heard the news of flying back to his hometown this Tet, was very happy, and immediately called his grandparents. Grandparents haven't seen their grandchildren for a long time, they miss them very much, and hearing that information is also very happy," Ms. Huong said.

For nearly 20 years since working far away, she has only returned to her hometown for Tet twice. "Travel expenses are very expensive, while economic conditions are tight, so for many years, although I really wanted to return to my hometown for Tet, I had to put aside that intention," the female worker born in 1985 shared.

I heard trade union officials say that the trade union is having a program to support air tickets for workers far from home to return to their hometowns for Tet, so I registered. I am very lucky to be one of the people who received tickets," Ms. Huong said.

Ms. Huong's family situation is quite difficult. Her husband used to be a worker, but because there was no one to pick up and drop off the children, he had to quit his job, working as a freelancer, and his income was unstable.

According to the plan, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour allocates 500 one-way air tickets and 500 gifts worth 300,000 VND/gift (in cash) to the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Dong Nai Labor Federation and Tay Ninh Provincial Labor Federation to support union members and workers returning home for Tet. Each union member and worker supported may be accompanied by a relative (wife/husband, father, mother or child).

Flights within the framework of "Trade Union Flight - Spring 2026" are organized from February 12 to 16, 2026 (ie from December 25 to 29 of the At Ty year). The starting point is Tan Son Nhat airport (Ho Chi Minh City), the destinations include Noi Bai airport (Hanoi), Vinh airport (Nghe An) and Phu Bai airport (Hue City).

In parallel with that, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour continues to organize the "Trade Union Train - Spring 2026", allocating 2,000 two-way train tickets and 2,000 gifts worth 300,000 VND/gift (in cash) to the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Dong Nai Provincial Labor Federation, Tay Ninh Provincial Labor Federation and Vietnam Railway Trade Union to support union members and workers returning home for Tet.
