Hoping to have cheap housing for workers to settle down
Quang Ngai has more than 96,000 workers, of which more than 91,000 are trade union members, working day and night, making important contributions to the socio-economic development of the province.
With more than 7,000 operating businesses, the demand for workers to own cheap social housing is very large. Therefore, the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress is about to take place, Quang Ngai workers expect delegates to discuss and propose solutions to promote the construction of social housing, realizing the dream of housing for workers.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Trinh Minh Tam - a worker working at Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company said that every day he has to travel about 80 km both ways, so it takes a lot of time. However, if renting a room near the workplace, living conditions are quite temporary. Hot summer, humid rainy season, while the room rental cost is also about 1 million VND/month.
With my current salary, I have to spend very sparingly to save a small amount. If renting a room, plus daily living and food expenses, it is almost impossible to accumulate. Therefore, we workers really hope that at the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, term 2026 – 2031, Quang Ngai delegates will discuss and propose practical solutions to build affordable social housing for workers in Dung Quat Economic Zone, helping workers have the opportunity to settle down and stabilize their lives," Mr. Tam expressed.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ha Van Hung - Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union of HD Hyundai Eco Vina Co., Ltd. said that currently industrial parks and export processing zones in Quang Ngai are increasingly developing strongly, expanding in scale, attracting new investment into factories and adding more industries. Therefore, the demand for labor recruitment of enterprises is still very large, while the source of highly skilled human resources is still low. This also raises the requirement to further improve the quality of output training from vocational education institutions.
In addition, for workers, cultural institutions, kindergartens, as well as social housing are essential needs, but they have not been responded to in time.
I hope that at the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, term 2026 - 2031, delegates will discuss the above issues and make practical decisions, contributing to solving current inadequacies, thereby improving the lives of union members and workers" - Mr. Hung shared.
Accelerate social housing construction
Mr. Ha Van Hung also hopes that superiors will consider re-establishing trade unions in industrial parks and export processing zones, because these are trade union organizations operating right in areas with tens of thousands of union members and workers. They are very close to union members and workers, playing an important bridge role, contributing to protecting rights and promoting the workers' movement to become increasingly vibrant.
Quang Ngai has only nearly 400 social housing units put into use. From now to 2030, Quang Ngai plans to build more than 1,000 social housing apartments each year. To accelerate the progress of social housing development in the province, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Construction, Department of Agriculture and Rural Environment, Provincial Land Development Center and related units to urgently remove obstacles and difficulties for investors in order to soon start projects.
On May 19, 2026, 2 new social housing projects will be started, including: The Trade Union Social Housing project with a scale of 2 9-story apartment buildings and 1 12-story apartment building, with about 603 apartments.
The social housing project in the Trade Union Facilities Area in Tho Phong commune has a land use area of 2.57ha, with a scale of about 1,209 apartments.
