When the news and family situation of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem in his hometown of Yen Mo - Ninh Binh were published on Lao Dong, many people could not hold back their tears. Khiem's family was poor, to earn money to raise his children, his father worked as a construction worker, his mother worked hard in the fields. Loving his parents, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem tried hard to study and train with the determination to serve in the army.
Then, on September 7, while facing storm No. 3 in Quang Ninh, First Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Khiem heroically sacrificed himself when he saw his teammate slipping, and there was a risk of a tree falling on him, endangering other teammates. He rushed in to help, but the tree fell on him and he fell. His teammates and unit took him to the hospital for emergency treatment, but he did not survive.
The greatest thing is life, Khiem gave it to save his comrades. Besides Khiem, there are many soldiers who shed sweat, blood and even sacrificed themselves to save people in times of trouble.
During storms and floods, good examples and touching stories are spread and that increases the faith and strength for everyone to overcome difficulties.
In Hanoi, there are kind hearts with a series of free places to eat and sleep for the homeless; in Yen Bai City, there are stories of men struggling for nearly 2 hours in the flood to rescue a mother and child trapped after all the neighbors had evacuated. “Very tired and hungry” but they “never thought of giving up” and the rescue team member’s words “neighborhood is above all” are an affirmation of this noble act…
There are hundreds of stories like this in almost every place that is facing difficulties. But to reduce damage and natural disasters, to help families in difficult situations: homeless, without warm clothes, without food… we need more kind hearts, more and faster helping hands.
In a letter of condolences to the people and soldiers affected by storm No. 3, General Secretary and President To Lam wrote: “I call on the business community, philanthropists, and our compatriots at home and abroad, based on their functions, tasks, capabilities, and conditions, to continue to strongly promote “national love and compatriotism” to provide the highest, fastest, and most timely support to the families who suffered losses in life and property caused by natural disasters.”
People in the Northern provinces who have just suffered from storm No. 3 are now continuing to be severely affected by floods from the storm's circulation and are in dire need of support.
