According to the report on the situation of laborers working abroad under contracts in the period of 2021-2024, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA) of Dong Thap province said that in the past 3 years, there were 7,150 laborers going abroad. Accordingly, laborers in the Japanese market were 6,100 laborers (accounting for 85.31%); the Korean market was 760 laborers (accounting for 10.63%); the Taiwanese market (China) was 122 laborers (accounting for 1.71%); and other markets were 168 laborers (accounting for 2.35%).
The total number of employees whose contracts expire from January 1, 2021 to August 31, 2024 is 6,792.
Also in the past 3 years, the fields of work chosen by many workers are mechanics - machine operation, food, agriculture... Besides, the number of workers choosing the nursing industry has also increased.
Mr. Pham Viet Cong - Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Dong Thap province - said that in recent times, the work of sending workers to work abroad under contracts has brought practical benefits to families, contributed to building new rural areas; helped increase income, improve qualifications and skills for workers; learned experience to apply in production labor, contributed significantly to poverty reduction in the locality and socio-economic development of the province.
“With nearly 5,000 workers working abroad under contracts, the province has generated more than VND1,200 billion in foreign currency revenue each year. Overseas workers have created a brand and reputation for Dat Sen Hong and contributed to expanding relations with foreign localities, opening up opportunities to attract investment for the province,” Mr. Cong informed.
However, the Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Dong Thap province also acknowledged that the current limitations are that the labor force working abroad under contracts is mainly untrained; laborers whose contracts have expired and who return to their local residence have not proactively provided information and declaration; and the assessment of the effectiveness and impact of sending laborers to work abroad is not close to the reality.
"On that basis, we recommend that companies sending workers to work abroad under contracts should consider providing training on entrepreneurship for workers during orientation education. When workers return after their contracts expire, localities should focus on consulting, guiding and supporting workers in accessing capital sources for start-ups and economic development," Mr. Cong suggested.
On the afternoon of October 11, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province organized a workshop on "Managing workers returning to their locality from working abroad and solutions to attract workers to start and establish businesses". The workshop is expected to contribute more solutions in managing and promoting the work of sending workers to work abroad.
