Realizing the aspiration to settle down
Trade union social housing not only meets housing needs but also creates a foundation for workers to settle down and work. Two projects in Dong Thap and Vinh Long are gradually taking shape, opening up hope for stable homes for thousands of union members and workers.
Leaving his hometown of Vinh Long nearly 10 years ago to work at Toyota Tien Giang Company, Mr. Nguyen Kinh Luan (born in 1993) always hopes that the My Tho Social Housing Project will be completed soon to realize his plan to build a home.
Attached to the business for nearly a decade, Mr. Luan is preparing to get married but still has to rent a room because he does not have the conditions to buy a house. For him, having a stable place to live near his workplace is the biggest desire to feel secure in starting a family, reducing living expenses and focusing on career development.
“I am very excited to see the project take shape day by day. If I have the opportunity to rent an apartment here, my wife and I will feel secure and settle down, no longer worry about housing and have more motivation to stick with the business for a long time” - Mr. Luan shared.
Sharing the same expectation, Mr. Tran Gia Minh - a worker at Unisoll Vina Co., Ltd., Giao Long commune, Vinh Long province - said that his family is currently living in Chau Hoa commune, about 20km from his workplace, so daily commuting is very difficult, especially in the rainy season.
According to Mr. Minh, going back and forth every day takes a lot of time and gasoline costs, and renting a room near the company incurs significant additional expenses. Therefore, the Trade Union Social Housing project is seen by many workers as an opportunity to stabilize their lives and reduce the economic burden.
Not only Mr. Luan or Mr. Minh, many workers in industrial parks also expect projects to be put into use soon to live in a safe and civilized environment, gradually realizing the aspiration to settle down and build a stable life.
Accelerating for the goal of sustainable housing
My Tho Social Housing Project currently reaches about 50% of the construction volume. The project has a total capital of more than 450 billion VND, including 4 8-story blocks with 526 apartments, 2 parking garages and a synchronous infrastructure system serving workers.
In Vinh Long, the Giao Long Trade Union Social Housing project has an investment capital of more than 554 billion VND, including 699 apartments on an area of more than 3.2ha. The project reached nearly 40% of the construction value, and is expected to be completed and put into use in the third quarter of 2027.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation - said that the investment in social housing projects shows a strong shift in the method of accompanying union members and workers of the Trade Union organization.
According to Mr. Linh, previously the Trade Union's activities mainly focused on caring for through programs to give gifts on holidays, Tet, Workers' Month, supporting union members in difficult circumstances or building Trade Union Shelters. These activities continue to be maintained, but the Trade Union organization is aiming for more fundamental and sustainable values.
Currently, the Trade Union is strongly shifting from "caring" to "representative" and "creating". Representative is proactively participating in building and supervising the implementation of policies, protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers. Creating is creating conditions for workers to have a stable and long-term life and development through investment in social housing, cultural institutions, welfare programs and connecting social resources.
In addition to maintaining regular welfare programs, the Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation is focusing on implementing long-term welfare programs, focusing on social housing, to help workers settle down, reduce living costs, feel secure in sticking with businesses and towards sustainable development" - Mr. Phuc Linh added.
