Trade Union Shelter helps union members in mountainous areas settle down

Sitting in a newly completed house, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Kieu - a union member of the Trade Union of Thuc Phan Ward Market Management Board (Cao Bang province) - is still moved when mentioning the support of the Trade Union organization.

Having a home to feel secure in work

Her family is in particularly difficult circumstances. After nearly 30 years of working, the economy is still tight; her husband is old, unable to work, has cancer and had to undergo liver resection in early 2025, while her child is in her final year of university.

After storms No. 10 and 11 in 2025, the level-four house was heavily damaged, many essential assets were destroyed, causing damage of about 490 million VND. At times, the whole family had to stay because the old house was no longer safe.

In May 2026, the Cao Bang Provincial Labor Federation supported her family with 40 million VND from the "Trade Union Shelter" program. Along with loans and the help of relatives, the family built a new house, gradually stabilizing their lives.

Since having a solid house, every time I go to work and encounter rain and wind, I feel more secure. My family is very grateful for the concern of the trade union levels" - Ms. Kieu shared.

Strongly orienting activities towards grassroots levels, taking care of union members

According to Mr. Ngoc Van Phan - Deputy Head of the Trade Union Affairs Committee, Cao Bang Provincial Labor Federation, in the first 6 months of 2026, trade union levels have implemented many activities to care for union members and workers.

During the Lunar New Year, more than 3,200 union members were supported with over 2.2 billion VND. During Workers' Month and Action Month on occupational safety and health, more than 2,500 union members participated in activities with a budget of over 1.3 billion VND.

Many practical programs were organized such as health check-ups, legal advice, job introductions, free oil changes, Trade Union meals and commendation of skilled workers.

In the first 6 months of 2026, the Cao Bang Provincial Labor Federation has supported the construction of 4 new houses with a total budget of 140 million VND.

Each house supported not only helps union members reduce housing difficulties but also creates motivation for workers to feel secure in working, attached to agencies, units and businesses" - Mr. Ngoc Van Phan shared.

In the coming time, the unit will continue to mobilize resources to expand the program and support more union members in difficult circumstances to stabilize their lives.

In recent years, the Cao Bang Provincial Labor Federation has identified taking care of union members as a key task, implementing many practical activities such as supporting Trade Union Shelters, visiting difficult circumstances and organizing welfare programs, helping workers stabilize their lives and feel secure in their work.
