Lai Chau - New roofs are being built every day in the resettlement area in Muong Than commune, helping people in flood-affected areas soon stabilize their lives.

At the end of July, in Muong Than commune, the construction atmosphere of the resettlement area for households who lost their homes after the flash flood took place urgently.

The sound of excavators and welding machines harmonizing with the hurried labor of hundreds of officers and soldiers creates a large construction site with the goal of soon building new roofs for people in disaster-stricken areas.

According to reporters' records, about 200 officers and soldiers were mobilized, divided into 3 shifts, 4 working shifts continuously.

Wherever the site is handed over, the construction teams immediately deploy it to shorten the project completion time. The resettlement area is built about 4 km from the landslide area.

This is a safely assessed location, no longer at risk of flash floods and landslides, meeting long-term stability conditions for people.

The project has a scale of leveling about 10,000 m2 of land, building 24 level 4 houses along with electricity, water, roads and auxiliary infrastructure works. Total cost is about 19 billion VND.

According to the plan, the resettlement area will be basically completed before August 20 and handed over houses to households to live in before August 30.

Through observation, many houses have completed the foundation, erected steel frames and roofs. At the construction site, soldiers continuously transport bricks, cement, sand, and stones to complete the walls and remaining items.

At the same time, field kitchens are also maintained to ensure daily meals for people while waiting for new accommodation arrangements.

Previously, on the morning of July 17, the flash flood that occurred in Chit village, Muong Than commune caused particularly serious consequences. Natural disasters affected more than 1,100 households with over 5,800 people; causing 9 deaths and 11 injuries.

The flash flood completely swept away 19 houses, dozens of other houses were heavily damaged. In addition, there are 297 households located in landslide-prone areas that need urgent relocation. Total estimated damage is over 290 billion VND.
