In recent days, Ms. Pham Thi Hang - former Chairwoman of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union, now Vice Chairwoman of the Hai Phong City Study Promotion Association , has been very sad and sorry for the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
“On July 20, 2019, I was one of 100 union officials who met with General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong. Exactly 5 years later, hearing the news of Uncle Trong's passing made me extremely sad and sad, so many memories of him rushed back into my mind, tears kept falling..." - Ms. Hang was emotional.
Through Ms. Hang's story, on the morning of July 20, 2019, a delegation of 10 trade union officials received the Nguyen Van Linh Award and 90 outstanding national grassroots Trade Union Presidents met with General Secretary and President Nguyen. Phu Trong at the Presidential Palace. Everyone was excited and looking forward to meeting the highest leader of the Party and State for the first time. The delegation lined up in many rows in front of the Presidential Palace, Ms. Hang stood in the first row.
Immediately after General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong appeared, the whole delegation burst into tears and applauded with joy. The General Secretary approached, shook hands, and greeted everyone very cordially.
“He walked up to me, raised his hand to greet everyone, smiled brightly and took a commemorative photo with the union officials. The image of that simple, approachable leader with a gentle smile is still imprinted in my mind until now and forever" - Ms. Hang said.
At the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong attentively listened to the results of the Trade Union's activities. At the same time, share with trade union officials stories about Uncle Ho with the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union; orient trade union activities in the new situation.
The General Secretary said that trade union officials must affirm their role with workers, protect workers' rights in parallel with sharing and supporting businesses to well implement regimes and policies for workers. No matter what position or role, delegates must promote the spirit of the Vietnamese working class, party members, and trade union officials. Especially the team of intellectuals promote their role and participate with the Party and State in building and bringing guidelines and policies into life and into the hearts of the people.
The meeting lasted just over an hour, but General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's instructions to Ms. Hang as well as the delegates were extremely valuable. Up to now, although she has not participated in Trade Union activities, Ms. Hang still remembers the General Secretary's teachings, applies her current work and life, and contributes to the development of the city and country.
