Amidst the excited atmosphere after the success of the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, term 2026 - 2031, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trung - Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union (CĐCS) of Can Tho Vocational College - placed many expectations on the new term.
Teacher Trung expressed: "The Congress has outlined very accurate and correct orientations, directly into the long-standing concerns of workers (NLĐ). With the characteristic of being a unit training high-quality human resources for the Mekong Delta region, the team of teachers, officials and workers at the school is facing the pressure of digital transformation and the rapid changes of the labor market. Therefore, the policies from the Congress are like a new breeze, adding confidence to us to move forward steadily.
Putting himself in the position of both a Trade Union official and a worker directly affected by policies, teacher Trung frankly expressed the first expectation that the upper-level Trade Union must strongly focus on the grassroots level. Can Tho Union members wish to receive more active support from the upper-level in terms of negotiation capacity, labor dispute handling, as well as providing data and modern communication methods to effectively mobilize workers. The upper-level Trade Union must truly be a solid support, accompanying, not just stopping at the role of direction.
From that expectation, teacher Trung emphasized the human factor: the Trade Union organization needs to build a team of grassroots officials who are truly close, understand the thoughts and "hear, speak" the voice of employees.
Workers need Trade Union officials who dare to think, dare to do, dare to protect them with the law, with the courage to dialogue and with responsibility. The Trade Union organization in the new era cannot just revolve around organizing superficial movements, collecting union fees or distributing gifts and cakes on holidays and Tet. Those things are precious, but not enough to retain workers when they encounter adversity," Mr. Trung analyzed.
According to teacher Trung, when encountering difficulties in labor contracts, wages, social insurance, occupational safety and health, or urgent worries about social housing and family life, the Trade Union must be the first place workers turn to. Only in this way can the "shield" role of the Trade Union truly take effect.
Speaking about the direction of building a modern and professional Vietnam Trade Union, teacher Trung places high hopes on the digitalization and transparency process.
Digital Trade Unions" should not just stop at union member management software. Workers need a two-way interactive digital ecosystem where they can reflect online petitions, look up insurance benefits, receive immediate legal advice or register for quick support. The application of big data will help Trade Unions care for the right people, the right work and at the right time, bringing real benefit value to union members," teacher Trung emphasized.
This innovation is an important foundation for building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in Can Tho. When the capacity for dialogue and problem-solving from the grassroots level is improved, labor disputes will be prevented early and remotely. This not only protects the legitimate rights of workers but also helps businesses develop sustainably, maintain social stability and create a transparent and attractive investment environment for the Mekong Delta capital.
Finally, from the perspective of an educator in a professional pedagogical environment, teacher Trung affirmed that the Trade Union must participate more actively in Party building and the political system.
Through practical activities, the Trade Union will educate revolutionary ideals, foster patriotism and raise civic awareness for workers. From the vocational environment, many outstanding union members, skilled workers with rich political bravery will be discovered, trained and introduced to the Party, contributing to consolidating the social foundation of the Party in the working class," teacher Trung expressed.
