On December 24, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor issued an official dispatch on giving comments on the 2026 New Year holiday plan.
The document signed by Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu said that in response to Official Dispatch No. 1251/BNV-CVL dated December 24, 2025 of the Ministry of Home Affairs on asking for opinions on the holiday plan for the Lunar New Year 2026, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized an online consultation for workers and trade union officials, accordingly, 63% of those surveyed agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (25,154 voters). Based on the above results, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has the following opinion:
Agreeing with the New Year holiday plan in 2026 as proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, specifically:
1. For civil servants and public employees
Day off on January 1, 2026, calendar year according to regulations.
The holiday on January 2, 2026 and swapped (compensation) to a weekly holiday on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Thus, during the 2026 New Year, civil servants and public employees will have 4 consecutive days off (from Thursday, January 1, 2026 to Sunday, January 4, 2026).
2. For workers
Encourage employers to apply the 2026 New Year's holiday to employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees but ensure full implementation of employees' regimes according to the provisions of law; encourage more beneficial agreements for employees.
