Peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia began at 4:00 p.m. on December 24 in Thailand's Chanthaburi province, which borders Cambodia.
The Thai Ministry of National Defense has raised a number of requests that need to be discussed before the bilateral meeting of the Joint Border Commission (GBC) on December 27.
If secretary-level discussions do not reach an agreement on key technical frameworks such as military deployment, Thailand will not continue the GBC meeting or sign any agreement on December 27, the Thai Ministry of National Defense said.
The discussions will mark the first bilateral dialogue since the fighting broke out on December 7, killing at least 44 people and displacing more than 500,000 civilians on both sides of the 800km border.
The five days of clashes in July ended with an initial ceasefire mediated between Malaysia and US President Donald Trump.
Bloomberg reported that the Thai military plans to raise the following issues during the negotiations: The use of anti-personnel mines; The use of historical sites as military positions; The firing of heavy weapons from residential areas; The use of civil buildings as military positions or weapons depots.
Both Thailand and Cambodia have denied targeting civilians, saying they will only attack military targets.
Cambodia has requested peace talks with Thailand to be held in Kuala Lumpur, but Thailand has rejected the request, said Thai Defense Ministry spokesman Surasant Kongsiri.
Thailand and Cambodia often alternate to host bilateral meetings, and the most recent GBC meeting was held in September, in Cambodia's Koh Kong province.
Meanwhile, Cambodian media reported on the afternoon of December 24 that Thailand will use additional KAI T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets to strike Cambodia, in addition to using the F-16 since the fighting began on December 7.
The bulletin said that from 12:15 to 12:36 on December 24, Thailand deployed a T-50TH fighter jet to drop cluster bombs on Slor Kram commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province of Cambodia. Then, at 2:02 p.m., a Thai T-50TH fighter jet dropped a bomb on Banan County, battambang Province.
The KAI T-50 Golden Eagle is an advanced hypersonic training aircraft line of Korea, including light fighter jets, light attack aircraft and light multi-purpose fighter jets, developed by the Korea Airlines Group (KAI) in collaboration with lockheed Martin.
